What does "I brain ODTU" means that we can change the world, METU people do not accept any borders or limitations, METU people think freely and express their ideas freely, What makes him/her a METU person is the culture of success and "making a difference" that is special to METU. It also means that a person from METU is not satisfied with the existing knowledge. He/She questions, investigates, develops and He/she tries to create new knowledge, put it into practice in real life and share it and His/Her sphere of responsibility is not limited to his/her immediate environment. Moreover it means that He/She is interested in the problems of his/her home country and of the world and looks for solutions for them. All these sentences eplain what is called the soul of METU. we, METU's students, call this "ODTÜ"lük"-coming from METU. We believe that we can change the whole world with the help of this soul, starting from our immediate environment.
In my opinion, there can be another slogan for METU. It can be " I finally METU". It
means that I finally came to METU and can understand its soul. So I say that I finally met you , METU.
First of all, in an ideal üniversity, people, regardless of who they are, where they from or what society they are in, must be valued. If it weren't so, there wouldn't be an order, but it turns a total conflict and tension in society. And also, in an ideal üniversity, there should be respect and love between the academic staff and students. There should be very well arranged art, cultural and social activities. For such activities, students must be willing and enterprising. Right at this point, lecturers should encourage students to organize and participate in such activities.
In a good university, there must be a big and useful campus. In the campus, there should be all sorts of opportunities from which not only students and staff but also outcomers can benefit. For example there sould be courses such as tennis, volleyball. An ideal university should have well-designed places for meetings, theates performances, exhibitions and other kinds of shows.
There must be a well-sourced library, In other words, a library in which one can find all kind of information in need. It shouldn't be a steady one but a dinamic and enriched with new books, documents, papers etc.
An ideal üniversty must push the limits. and it must always aim in providing with a good education. It must target the international quality education. Some international exchancing programmes should take place.
Besides all those things, there must be a good variety of people coming from different cultures, nations so that a warm atmosphere could arise. METU has all these properties I wrote down. All told, METU is an ideal üniversity for me .
